Frequently Asked Questions

This is a 100% volunteer-driven, non-profit initiative. Our goal is to build not just a Tamil school, but a strong Tamil learning community for our children through in-person education.

Who is organizing this Tamil school?

This initiative is run entirely by volunteer parents from the community who are passionate about Tamil language and culture.

Are Hollywood Tamil School and Bharathidasan Tamil School managed by different teams?

No. Both schools are managed by the same volunteer team. Hollywood Tamil School will continue as a hybrid program offering the ATA syllabus, while Bharathidasan Tamil School will operate as a fully in-person program following the CTA curriculum.

This provides families the flexibility to choose the learning format that best suits their child's needs.

Why in-person classes?
  • Higher focus and discipline – A classroom environment reduces distractions and helps children stay engaged compared to learning at home.
  • Peer learning and motivation – Seeing other kids learn and speak Tamil encourages participation and builds confidence.
  • Structured and consistent learning – Regular in-person classes create a routine, helping kids stay on track and progress steadily.
  • Hands-on cultural activities – Activities like storytelling, games, celebrations, and performances make learning Tamil fun and meaningful.
  • Improved reading and writing practice – Teachers can closely guide handwriting, reading fluency, and comprehension.
  • Stronger teacher–student connection – Personal interaction helps teachers understand each child's level and support them better.
What will my child learn?

Tamil reading, writing, speaking, culture, and interactive activities like storytelling and events.

What is the CTA/ITA curriculum and how does it help?
  • Structured curriculum (KG–Grade 8) covering speaking, reading, writing, grammar, and culture
  • Designed for children growing up outside Tamil-speaking environments
  • Proven to build confidence in speaking, reading, and writing through progressive levels
  • Widely used across Tamil schools in California, the U.S., and internationally
  • Includes textbooks, workbooks, and optional video/practice resources for home learning
